Nut-Aware Policy

Our Approach

Creating a safe, inclusive environment for every child is central to the Conquest School community. We support pupils with allergies by following national guidance and the recommendations of Allergy UK.

As it is not possible to guarantee a completely nut-free environment, we operate a Nut-Aware Policy rather than a ‘nut-free school’ claim. Our aim is to minimise risk, promote awareness, and ensure that all pupils with allergies feel safe and supported.

We aim to reduce the risk of nut exposure by: 
– Asking families not to send nuts or nut-containing products in packed lunches or snacks. 
– Working with our catering team to ensure school-provided meals follow safe allergen-management practices. 
– Encouraging careful handwashing before and after eating. 
– Avoiding food sharing between pupils. 

We cannot guarantee:
– That nuts will never enter the school premises.
– That all foods brought from home are nut-free.
– That cross-contamination will never occur.

This reflects Allergy UK’s guidance that banning nuts can create a false sense of security and is not enforceable in a school setting.

Celebrations & Special Events

To keep everyone safe:
– Any treats brought into school must be nut-free.
– Parents should check ingredient labels carefully.
– Staff will review items before they are shared with pupils.

Preventing Cross-C0ntamination

We reinforce safe habits by:
– Encouraging regular handwashing.
– Cleaning eating areas thoroughly.
– Ensuring pupils do not share food, drinks, or utensils.
– Considering allergies when planning classroom activities, crafts, or celebrations.

Communication & Inclusivity

We work closely with families to ensure pupils feel safe, included, and supported. Allergy UK emphasises the importance of:
– Open communication between school and parents.
– Avoiding practices that single out or stigmatise children with allergies.
– Promoting empathy and understanding among pupils.

We are committed to fostering a culture where every child feels valued and protected.
